Whether you want to keep track of time sheets or running times, a spreadsheet can help you organise those times. Google Docs spreadsheets offer a time stamping function that you can access with just a few keystrokes. Once you've entered your time stamps, you can calculate the difference to find the amount of time that has elapsed.

  1. 1

Log in to your Google account and click "Documents" from the menu bar at the top of your screen. Then click "Create New" and click "Spreadsheet."

  2. 2

Click on a cell and enter a time in the following format: "hh:mm:ss." Press "Ctrl," "Shift" and the semicolon button if you want to enter the current time. Enter another time in a different cell using the same time format.

  3. 3

Click an empty cell to enter a formula. To subtract one time from another to get a time difference, type "=C5-B5" into the cell and press "Enter." Substitute "C5" and "B5" with the particular cell numbers containing your time stamps. Google spreadsheets will give you the difference between the two times.

Tips and warnings

  • The time difference needs to be less than 24 hours, otherwise it won't calculate correctly.
