The Acer Aspire 3100 is a personal laptop computer with a 15.4-inch display. In some cases, such as malicious software being installed on the computer, a system restore is necessary. The system restore process resets the hard drive to its factory configuration. Software can be purchased to restore the system, but the Aspire 3100 has a free system restore utility built into the system.

    Turn the Acer Aspire 3100 on. Wait for the system to boot into Windows XP.

    Press and hold the "Alt" key. Press the "F10" key. Release both keys. The "Acer eRecovery Management" utility opens.

    Type in the password to continue. If the password has not been changed, it is the default password of six zeroes.

    Click "Restore." Select "Restore system to factory default."

    Type in the password. Click "Next" to begin the reset process.
