How to Restore My Compaq Presario CQ50 Without a Disk

The Compaq CQ50-115NR is a notebook computer that shipped standard with the Windows Vista Home Premium operating system. The CQ50-115NR was available with 3 gigabytes of memory and a 200-gigabyte hard drive. Weighing in at less than six pounds, the CQ50-115NR has a 15.4 inch screen and full-size notebook keyboard. Rather than providing recovery disks, which are used to restore the CQ50-115NR to its factory state, the computer has a recovery partition integrated into its hard drive. To return the computer to the condition in which it was shipped, use the recovery partition.

Back up to your external hard drive all of the items on the computer's hard drive that you would like to keep. The hard drive will be completely erased during the recovery process.

Open the "Start" menu and then click "Shut Down" to turn off the computer. Allow the computer to completely shut down.

Press the power button to turn on the computer and then press the "F11" button when "Press for recovery" is displayed on the bottom of the screen.

Select "Recovery Manager" from the utility screen.

Click "Advanced Options" and then select "System recovery." Click "Next" to proceed.

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the recovery process.
