How to Make a Starry Sky in Illustrator

Updated April 17, 2017

Adobe Illustrator is one of the premier vector graphics applications on the market, and is widely used in business, and by artists. Illustrator provides all the tools you need to produce virtually any graphic you can imagine. For example, if you would like to create a dark sky scene, fill with stars, this is easy to do in Illustrator.

Start Illustrator. Select "File" from the menu, and choose "New." In the dialogue box that appears, enter the width and height you want for the document, and click "OK."

Select the "Rectangular" tool from the toolbar, and set the fill colour to black. Drag on the canvas with the tool to cover it with a black rectangle. Select "Select" from the menu, and choose "Deselect."

Select the "Star" tool from the toolbar. Change the fill colour to a light grey. Then begin drawing your stars onto the canvas. When you are done, save your work.
