The audio input port on your MacBook Pro 13-inch laptop is used to input audio into the computer for recording or voice commands. If you have an external microphone, you can use it with your MacBook Pro. Once the microphone has been plugged into the port, you must turn the input on through the System Preferences. You don't have to be a Mac technician to use the audio port. You can do it with just a few clicks of the mouse.

Skill level:

  1. 1

Plug your external microphone or audio source into the audio port on the left side of the laptop's casing. The input is located behind the headphone jack. This is labelled on the side of the computer.

  2. 2

Click the Apple icon at the top of the Finder menu and then click "System Preferences."

  3. 3

Click the "Sound" icon in the System Preferences, then click the "Input" tab.

  4. 4

Change the "Use audio for:" from "Sound Output" to the "Sound Input" option in the menu. This will enable the mic port on the computer.
