GE Medallion 850 Oven Door Removal

Updated November 21, 2016

The General Electric Medallion 850 oven offers several cooking, baking and heating options, including a surface cooktop, broiling, variable temperatures for cooking and roasting, a warming drawer, self-cleaning feature and a door that can be removed for cleaning or repair purposes. Removing the door from the oven is fairly straightforward and can be accomplished with a few tools. Note that only adults should remove the oven door, due to the weight of the door and the increased risk of injury, and that it may take two adults to lift off the door.

Open the oven door all the way.

Locate the hinge locks on each side of the oven. Pull the locks down in the direction of the door frame. Use a flathead screwdriver to help push the locks down, if necessary.

Grab the oven door on both sides near the top and slowly close the door halfway.

Lift the door up and out, watching to make sure the hinge arm clears the hinge slot while lifting.

Set the oven door down in a safe location.
