Hydraulic systems utilise liquid pressure to generate power by forcing the hydraulic fluid through the machine. When using a hydraulic pump fit the machine with the right length hoses. Once you cut down the hose to the right length and attach the fitting, the hose requires a crimping machine to ensure it is fitted tightly. Purchase a hose crimper for your home or business and save money doing the work yourself.

  1. 1

Put on working goggles, gloves and ear protectors before working on any heavy machinery.

  2. 2

Lay the hose down on a flat table and use measuring tape to determine the length you want the hose to be. Lay the fitting above the hose endpoint then make a mark where the fitting should be placed.

  3. 3

Cut the end of the hose where you made your length mark with a saw.

  4. 4

Lubricate the inside of the fitting and slide it onto the hose end.

  5. 5

Check the micrometer setting on the crimping machine. The machine instructions explain the right settings to use depending on the hose type being crimped. These settings can be adjusted by moving the micrometer dial.

  6. 6

Put the hose into the crimping machine and line up the fittings mark with the top of the hydraulic hose, then insert the compression ring into place. Turn the crimping machine on to complete the crimping process.
