DameWare client software provides IT system administrators with an efficient and effective way to remotely access and manage all computers on the network from one location, including computers over wide area networks. However, certain network configurations such as wide area networks and virtual private networks may have slower performance, making DameWare connections sluggish. Configure the DameWare Mini Remote Control software so that it is responsive even in low bandwidth conditions.
- Skill level:
Open the DameWare Mini Remote Control software and click on a host entry. Then click the "Setting" button and click the "Display Options" tab. Click the "Force 8-bit" setting.
Click the "Remote Options" tab and then if you are using DameWare on a local area network (LAN), set the "Compression Level" to "0," set the "Scan Blocks (Scan Lines/Blocks)" setting to "14" and set the "Delay Between Scan Block Update" to "4" and click the "OK" button. However, if you are using DameWare over a low bandwidth wide area network (WAN) connection, set the "Compression Level" to "9," set the "Scan Blocks (Scan Lines/Blocks)" setting to "32" and set the "Delay Between Scan Block Update" to "5-10."
Click the "Desktop Effects" button in the "Remote Options" tab and then click the "Disable Desktop Wallpaper," "Disable Desktop Pattern" and "Disable Font Smoothing" checkboxes and click the "OK" button.
Click the "Encryption Options" tab and disable all encryption options and then click the "OK" button to save the "Settings" options.
