How to Make a Portable Shower With a Water Pump
The comfort of a hot shower is welcomed on camping trips. (camping image by BOOJOO from

When you're camping -- whether it be in a tent or a small trailer -- sometimes you miss the comforts of home like a hot shower. While many larger trailers have showers built into them, tents and smaller pop-up tent trailers may not. Many campers will string up a gravity-fed solar heated water shower, these sometimes will lack the force needed to provide a good shower. Using a water pump system will give you the added pressure for a proper shower.

Skill level:

Things you need

  • 10 feet, 3/8-inch diameter clear vinyl tubing
  • 2 hose clamps
  • Liquid fertiliser spray jug that has a pump system
  • Black spray paint
  • Tube of silicone

  1. 1

Remove the attached hose from the pump spray jug and replace the tubing with the clear vinyl tubing. Place a hose clamp around the connection and tighten it.

  2. 2

Connect the hose that was attached to the pump spray jug to the end of the clear vinyl tubing, and secure with a hose clamp. The original hose has a wand at the end of that will be used as the shower head.

  3. 3

Paint the pump spray jug with the black spray paint and allow it to dry.

  4. 4

Fill the spray jug with water, pump the handle to pressurise the system and test the connections to make sure there are no leaks. Use a bead of silicone around the connections to further seal them if there are any leaks.

  5. 5

Fill the spray jug with water, leave it in the sun for the water to heat up. Pump the handle to pressurise the system and enjoy your hot shower.
