You have many ways to take money out of your bank account--credit cards, debit cards and ATM cards to name just a few. Yet if you want to put money into your account, you have fewer options. Deposit slips and direct deposits are the two most practical ways to get money from your hand to your account.

Contact your bank to request deposit slips for your account. You may have received some when you opened the account, but the bank will supply you if you need more. These are personalised for your bank account because they have the bank routing number and your account number printed across the bottom.
Write today's date in the "Date" field on the deposit slip. The bank may not require it, but it's a good habit to fill out financial documents completely for record-keeping purposes.
Record the amount of money you want to deposit into your bank account, writing each digit in a separate box on the form. If you want to deposit cash, write the number of dollars in the row labelled "Currency" and write the number of dollars in the row labelled "Coins." If you want to deposit a check, write the amount the check is for in the "Check" row. If you have multiple sums of money to deposit, write them in the next row in the appropriate section--"Currency," "Coins" or "Check."
Add up the amounts of currency, coins or checks you have written on the deposit slip. Write the sum in the row labelled "Total," writing each digit in a separate box.
Sign the deposit slip. Without your signature, the slip is invalid and the bank will not deposit your money.
Deliver the deposit slip to your bank. You must do this in person to deposit cash because it's unsafe to cash it in the mail. You can deliver a deposit slip through the mail if you're depositing a check.
Write "VOID" across a check for the bank account you want to put money into. Direct deposit is most useful for having your paychecks deposited directly into your bank account rather than in the form of a physical check, and employers use the numbers at the bottom of a check to verify your bank routing number and account number. Voiding the check ensures that no one can use the check without your consent.
Ask your employer for a direct deposit form. Fill out all the information and return it to your employer. Never put your PIN on this form because the employer only needs your bank routing number and account number.
Return the completed form to your employer, along with the voided check. It can take up to two weeks for direct deposit to take effect, so you may still receive your next paycheck in the form of a physical check.
