  1. 1

Remove the breast pump from the package. Wash the plastic pump components using the dishwashing soap and dishcloth. Wash the bottle, breast shield, valve and plug thoroughly and rinse these parts in warm water.

  2. 2

Fill the saucepan with water and boil it. Add the plastic parts you just washed to the boiling water and keep these parts submerged in the water for 10 minutes to sterilise them. Remove the parts when the time elapses.

  3. 3

Place the batteries into the battery compartment or plug in the electric adaptor.

  4. 4

Assemble the pump by screwing the breast shield into position at the motor. Insert the plug into the valve and insert both parts into the breast shield. Screw the bottle into the bottom of the breast shield over the plug and valve parts.

  5. 5

Place the breast shield squarely over the nipple and turn the pump on. Adjust the suction strength, starting with the suction strength at the lowest setting and increasing it slowly. The goal is to encourage the milk to flow while maintaining a comfortable level of suction. Do not increase the suction level to the point of discomfort or pain.

  6. 6

Continue pumping until approximately 2 or 3 minutes after the last drops of milk fall from the nipple. Turn the pump off when you finish pumping.

  7. 7

Remove the breast shield from the breast and disassemble the pump. Pour the breast milk into another container and wash all of the breast pump parts in warm, soapy water.
