How to Turn on the Webcam on a Lenovo Laptop

Updated April 17, 2017

Some Lenovo Thinkpad model laptops come with a built-in webcam mounted over the top of the LCD screen. Because there is no physical power switch on the webcam, you need to enable it from your computer's desktop. There's no reason to let this intimidate you, because it doesn't require much technical knowledge. As long as you can operate a mouse, you should be able to activate your Thinkpad webcam; and it won't take any more than a minute of your time.

Turn on your laptop. Click the "Start" button.

Select "All Programs." Open Windows Movie Maker.

Select "Capture Video From Device." Entire a file name for your captured video. A capture window will appear. Select the "Start Capture" tab in the capture window to begin recording from your webcam. Select "Stop Capture" when you are finished recording.
