How to Replace a Cracked Roof Tile

Updated February 21, 2017

Tiles are a popular material for constructing a roof because they are aesthetically pleasing and functional. In some cases, however, a tile may crack because of continuous exposure to the weather. If you want to replace the cracked tile and restore the look of your roof, do so easily with a pair of pry bars. Learn how to properly remove the tile and replace it with a restored tile.

Slide one of the pry bars underneath the roof tile to the top right of the cracked tile. Place the bar so that the bent part of the bar rests on the tile to the immediate right of the cracked tile to prop the tile up.

Slide the second pry bar under the tile to the immediate left of the cracked tile.

Lift up the back side of the cracked tile and remove it from the roof.

Insert a replacement tile into the vacant spot, then carefully remove the pry bars so that the surrounding tiles rest on the replacement again.
