If you have ever repainted the bottom of your door because of all the scuff marks made by shoes, then you understand the need for a kick plate. A door kick plate is a metal shield placed at the bottom of the door where everyone bumps their feet as they open or close it. This saves your door a lot of wear and tear, and you a lot of cleaning.

  1. 1

Clean the bottom of the door with soap and water to remove any dirt and grime. Rinse clean with a damp rag, then towel dry with another rag.

  2. 2

Place the kick plate up to the bottom of the door and situate it so that there is equal spacing on either side and the piece is about 1 inch from the bottom of the door. Once you have it in place, check to make sure it is level, then mark its location or the screw holes with a pencil.

  3. 3

Place the kick plate face down and remove the cover off the double-sided tape.

  4. 4

Put the plate back up to the table where it was previously marked. Check it with a level again and then press it to the door.

  5. 5

Screw the hardware that came with the plate through the holes in the plate and into the door to secure it.
