Game Masters (GMs) are customer service specialists that help gamers in the "World of Warcraft" online role-playing game. If someone has problems playing the game, they can send in a question or complaint by clicking the red question mark that appears at the bottom of the "Warcraft" screen. After a period of time, the player will receive a response from a Game Master. Blizzard--the company that puts out "World of Warcraft"--wants Game Masters that are good at customer service, have excellent communication skills and are good writers. Blizzard also wants people who have experience with role-playing computer games.

Skill level:

  1. 1

To apply for a Game Master position, send a cover letter, resume and salary history to, or mail the information to Blizzard Human Resources, Game Master application, P.O. Box 18979, Irvine, CA 92623.

  2. 2

Remember that Blizzard gets many resumes, so you have to make yourself stand out. When you send your resume, make sure it includes your educational and work experience (really focus on this) and professional organisations you belong to, if any. If submitting by e-mail, you should choose to paste the letter in the body of the email because that is the first thing the HR representative will see when he opens your e-mail. In the subject line, write "Game Master Position."

  3. 3

Write your cover letter. Begin your opening paragraph with some information about Blizzard, so the company learns that you have researched them. This shows them that the job is important to you. Next, tell them why you want to work for Blizzard rather than some other gaming company. However, be subtle--don’t act like a kid jumping up and down at Christmas. For your second paragraph, give Blizzard a short overview of your gaming experience and any programming experience you have. Remember to make yourself stand out. In your third paragraph, thank Blizzard for reading your letter and give them your contact information. Be as specific about yourself in your letter as possible. Don’t be general: this is your time to shine. Spell check your letter for errors, but don’t depend on this feature. It will miss words like "your" and "you’re."

Tips and warnings

  • The field is very competitive, so you will have to be prepared to spend time waiting for an opportunity to open up. You will also have to be willing to relocate to one of their offices in California.
  • Game Master positions are hourly, and most are full-time.
