Converse trainers are always trendy, but you can add your own personal touch. Trainer crafts using an old or new pair of plain Converse trainers are easy, fun and give you a stylish end result. To personalise your trainers, use permanent markers and fabric paint to color the blank spaces and then add any decorative accessories or laces that strike your fancy.
- Skill level:
Things you need
- Clean Converse or other canvas trainers
- Fabric paint and paint brushes
- Permanent markers
Clean your shoes thoroughly before beginning your craft project.
Stuff the shoes with newspaper and use fabric paint to colour in the canvas areas of the shoe. Paint the canvas with a solid colour or a pattern like stripes, polka dots or even tartan.
Allow the paint to dry and go back over with permanent markers, paint pens or puffy paint to add accents to the canvas.
Use permanent markers to colour in any of the rubber areas of the shoe that you want to change. You can find permanent markers in plenty of colours besides black, even metallic colors like silver and gold.
Add studs, iron-on patches or any other decorative accents you like. Get creative and use what you have.
Finish off your shoes with some funky shoelaces. You can get multicoloured shoelaces or even shoelaces with patterned designs.
Tips and warnings
- Even if your shoes are old and worn out and you don't feel like revamping them to wear, you can decorate your Converse shoes and give them a new use. One interesting trainer project is to decorate your shoes and then weight them by filling them with stones and use them as bookends. This is an especially good use for high-top converse shoes and you can starch them before you decorate so that they stand up straight.
