    How to Brighten Dull Skin

    There's nothing like a bright, healthy-looking complexion to make you look young and vibrant. By the same token, dull skin can make you look old and fatigued. One cause of dull, dry skin is a poor diet, one that is low in vitamins, minerals or essential fatty acids. Other possible causes include lack of exfoliation, a dry or cold climate, or a combination of these factors. It is important to take care of skin topically and internally on a continual basis if you want to achieve a lasting glow.

    Exfoliate dead skin cells with a gentle scrub, soft facial brush, alpha hydroxy acid, or beta hydroxy acid. Exfoliating acids come in the form of masks, cleansers and other topical treatments. The potency of the acids varies; choose one that is appropriate for your skin type. A facial scrub with smooth particles is ideal. Scrubs with rough exfoliants can damage the skin and allow bacteria to enter your pores. If you are using a facial brush, look for one with soft bristles that will not irritate your skin.

    Moisturise your skin adequately. Natural oils such as rosehip oil, avocado oil and jojoba oil contain vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that will benefit the skin. Oils will impart a healthy glow to your skin while providing nourishment and protection.

    Include in your diet foods that contain an adequate amount of zinc, folate, chromium, copper, vitamin A, vitamin B12, vitamin E and vitamin C. These vitamins and minerals will help to brighten your skin from the inside.

    Citrus fruits are a great source of vitamin C. Carrots and sweet potatoes are an excellent source of vitamin A. Incorporate whole grains and nuts into your diet for zinc. Use supplements for vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids if necessary.
