One of the downsides of glass is its ability to become scratched easily. This can leave your car looking old and used, and if the scratch occurs on the windshield glass, it could become dangerous. Scratches reflect light. This means that if you get enough scratches on your windshield you could potentially lose the ability to see well. This is especially true when the sun hits it just right, or at night with the reflection of oncoming headlights. Luckily, fixing scratches in a car window is not the difficult with a little work and the right products.
One of the cheapest ways to remove scratches from your car windows is to buy a glass polish kit. Glass polishing kits start at around £13 and may be found at the home improvement or auto body store and even on line. A glass polish kit comes with everything you need: glass polish, microfiber cleaning cloth, and glass-polishing disks for use with a regular electric buffer.
The application of the glass polish kit is easy. First, apply the glass polish to a dry polishing disk. Using the buffer on a low speed, work the polish into the window or windshield. It is best to work up and down, then left to right. Do this several times across the entire area of glass.
Once the polish has been properly worked into the windshield, take a microfiber cloth and remove excess polish. Take a plastic bag and put it over your hand. This will protect the glass from getting oil from your hands on it. Run your plastic covered fingertips across the glass. If the glass still feels gritty, perform the process again.
There are advantages of using a glass polish kit over other methods. (Even when covered by vehicle insurance, a windshield replacement can still be expensive. A professional glass cleaning will also cost more than the cost of the kit and your time.) The most obvious benefit is the savings. A glass polish kit may also be used several times because the disks may be washed and dried at least twice before disposal. With the kit, you have the convenience of being able to fix further scratches on the window whenever you desire.
