Fluid Leakage

Your Audi must be kept full of transmission fluid. Unfortunately, the fluid level inspection plug is difficult to reach (under the transmission), so you may need to rely on Audi professionals to treat leaking fluid problems. Symptoms include: transmission slipping, difficult shifting, the car does not accelerate in forward or reverse gears or when the shifting causes noise.

Shift Cable

Your transmission shift cable may need adjustments if you are able to start your Audi in Park or Neutral, the shifter shows a different gear than the one you desire, or when the car moves when placed in Park. Adjusting the shift cable is one of the few tasks that can be done at home with the right tools.

Transmission Electronic Control Unit

The transmission in your A4 is controlled by an electronic unit. Defects in this unit or in the electrical circuit can cause the transmission not to downshift while the accelerator pedal is depressed. This procedure must be performed by Audi professionals.
