Uterine fibroids, also known as myomas, are the leading cause of a hysterectomy among women in their thirties. It is during these years, before the start of menopause, that progesterone levels decrease and oestrogen levels remain the same. Without enough progesterone to balance oestrogen levels, fibroid tumours can form. While they are benign (non-cancerous), they can be extremely painful to the sufferer, leading to a hysterectomy. However, if you are not thrilled with the idea of surgery, there is an all natural treatment option--all natural progesterone supplements.
Know the symptoms. The closer women get to their forties, the age when they are pre-menopausal, fibroid tumours are at their most prevalent. Progesterone levels begin to decrease, allowing for oestrogen to take control. While oestrogen is a natural hormone for women, it is also considered the key component in the growth of fibroid tumours. These tumours, or myomas, generally begin as the size of an egg, slowly progressing to the size of a grapefruit. They grow on the uterine wall and can cause symptoms such as pain in the pelvis, heavy bleeding, painful menstrual cycles, and an irregular flow.
Weigh your options. While the first form of treatment for myomas in the past has been a hysterectomy, there is a non-surgical treatment available; it is all natural progesterone. When younger women opt for a hysterectomy, they are usually placed on a regimen of hormone replacement therapy. This therapy pumps the body full of oestrogen. Too much oestrogen causes the formation of myomas, even after a hysterectomy has been performed. If you instead opt to treat the myomas with natural progesterone though, it will balance the levels of oestrogen in the body, bringing them back to normal levels so that they cannot increase the size of the myomas. Prolonged use of natural progesterone has also been proven to shrink the fibroids completely.
Research the forms of natural progesterone. There are three main forms of natural progesterone used in the treatment of fibroid tumours. First there is the cream. A progesterone cream can be absorbed by the body ten times faster than oral supplements. There are about ten per cent of women though, who do not absorb the cream well. In addition, you must be careful when choosing the cream you will use. Some creams have all natural herbs added to them which have an oestrogen like effect. They are labelled as phytoestrogens. The most effective cream to use is Maca Progesterone cream. Maca is an all natural herb found in Peru that blocks xenoestrogens (foreign forms of oestrogen). By blocking these xenoestrogens, oestrogen itself is unable to increase in the body. You can also choose a sublingual progesterone supplement that goes under the tongue, or a progesterone pill that is taken orally. The last option requires a prescription from your doctor.
Test your saliva. Once you have researched the natural progesterone treatments, order a saliva test kit. Again, ten per cent of women do not absorb the cream well. By having your saliva tested, you will know if you are among those ten per cent. A saliva kit can be purchased for around thirty dollars and can be ordered on line. Once you receive your kit, you spit into the plastic tube provided and mail it back to the laboratory. If you absorb creams well, your results will range from 500 to 1000pg/ml. If you do not, the results will be under 100pg/ml. This is a great indicator of the type of natural progesterone treatment that will work for you.
Set yourself up for success. Even if your body absorbs the cream well, you may still experience a growth in fibroids. This is due to the xenoestrogens found in the environment. While you may not be able to control all of the outside environmental influences, there are many that you can. Some products containing xenoestrogens include coffee (decaf and regular), scented lotions, shampoos, and cosmetics. If you eliminate these risk factors before beginning a progesterone treatment, you will experience greater success when it comes to the shrinking of fibroids.
