14th Birthday Present Ideas

Updated April 17, 2017

A 14-year-old is usually past children's toys and would prefer a more grown-up gift. Before you begin your search for the perfect present, find out if the recipient has any special interests, collections or musical interests. If you know her well, you could also try giving something unusual to try to spark a new interest.

Gift Cards

Most stores offer gift cards or gift tokens that can be used to purchase items. While not the most exciting present to open, it offers flexibility and choice to the birthday boy, making it a safe option for a picky 14-year-old. If you don't know his favourite place to shop, consider a mall gift card or a VISA gift card. Similar to a debit card, it is an accepted form of payment at many places

Magazine Subscription

For a gift that keeps on giving, get the birthday teen a magazine subscription. Popular magazines for teen girls include "Seventeen," "CosmoGirl," "J-14" and "Girl's Life." Popular magazines for teen boys include "Sports Illustrated," "Mad Magazine," "BMX Plus!," "Rolling Stone" and "PC Gamer."

Cell Phone and MP3 Accessories

Most 14-year-olds are wired. It's likely that the birthday girl has a cell phone or MP3 player. There are many colourful accessories for cell phones, such as charms and cases. MP3 players have add-ons like speakers, cases and headphones. With an iTunes gift card, the birthday boy can take his pick of music.

Girl-Specific Gifts

At 14, many girls are brand conscious. If you want to buy them clothes or fashion accessories, choose popular brand names over generic store brands. Abercrombie & Fitch, Aeropostal, American Eagle, Juicy Couture and Delia's are all popular teen clothing brands. Bath and body products, lip gloss and nail polish are also likely to be a hit with this age group.

Boy-Specific Gifts

For 14-year-old boys, sports, music, movies and video games are all likely interests that provide the gift giver a wide range of options. Boys are also very brand conscious when it comes to apparel, with names like Quiksilver, Billabong, Nike, American Eagle and Abercrombie & Fitch topping the list.
