Hi, my name is Jay Smith from Community Dog Training. I'm in Oracle, Arizona today to talk a little bit about how to stop a puppy from biting. The first thing to understand is that when a puppy bites on your arms and hands that it's an attention-seeking behavior, and if they get attention from you and it works for them, they'll keep doing it. The best way to get a puppy to stop biting on your arms and hands is to ignore the behavior. If the puppy thinks that the human will leave or disappear the second that the teeth touch the human's skin, they'll stop doing it. Another great technique to use is to redirect the puppy's focus to something else. It's taking their brain or mind from here, and putting it over here, since they have very short attention spans. A great way to redirect the puppy's focus is to use a toy and get them interested in that. One of the things that I discourage people from doing with their puppies is no rough hand games or rough wrestling and playing with your puppy. Playing rough hand games or wrestling rough with your dog will encourage the dog to even bite harder and more often. I'm Jay Smith from Community Dog Training, and that's how you keep a dog from biting on your arms and hands.
