If you are on low-fat or low-calorie diet, you don't have to exclude cheese from the diet, particularly if you're fond of cheeses. Many dairy brands offer non-fat or low-fat cheeses to fulfil your cravings. Although non-fat cheeses are usually processed, some cheeses are naturally low-fat. Read the nutrition labels carefully before you purchase any type of cheese.
Non Fat American Cheese
Non-fat American cheese is high in phosphorus and a great source of calcium, zinc and Vitamin A. The nutrition labels vary with different brands. Usually, there are 31 calories, 1 per cent carbohydrates, 0 per cent fat and cholesterol, 11 to 13 per cent sodium and 10 per cent protein in single slice of cheese. In one slice serving, there are 21 grams of iron, 9 per cent vitamin A, and 15 per cent calcium.
Fat Free Cheddar Cheese
After having normal cheddar cheese, it can be difficult to develop taste for non-fat cheddar cheese. However, its a good compromise if you want to create a recipe containing traditional cheddar cheese. It is a great source of nutrition. Non-fat cheddar cheese may contain 0 per cent fat and fibre, 40 to 45 calories, 8 to 9g of protein, 2g of carbohydrates and 12 per cent sodium in a serving size of ¼ cup. Many brands offer fat-free sharp cheddar cheese as well.
Non Fat Mozzarella Cheese
Non-fat mozzarella cheese in a serving size of ¼ cup usually contains 45 calories, 0 per cent fat, iron and potassium, 2 per cent cholesterol, 12 per cent sodium, 1 per cent carbohydrates, 9g protein, 10 per cent vitamin A and 25 per cent calcium. It can be difficult to develop taste for and cook with fat-free mozzarella cheese, however, it can be used to create baked pastas, pizzas, casseroles, lasagnes and soups.
Natural Low Fat Cheeses
Some cheeses are naturally low-fat and do not have any synthetic ingredients. They are satisfying in taste and may help you consume less. Based on a 28.4gr. portion size, goat-cheese contains 6g fat, 4g saturated fat and 76 calories; Parmesan cheese contains 7g fat, 4g saturated fat and 110 calories; feta contains 6g fat, 4g saturated fat and 75 calories; and provolone cheese contains 7g fat, 5g saturated fat and 100 calories.
