How to convert kw to amps

Kilowatts and amps are commonly used to measure the amount of current running through a system. The two measurements are related by the amount of energy per coulomb of charge, which refers to the voltage. Given the voltage, you can convert kilowatts to amps by following a relatively simple formula.

  1. Find out the voltage on the device or the system (it is usually listed) and write the number down.

  2. Convert kilowatts to watts by multiplying the number of kilowatts by 1,000. Record the value.

  3. Divide the number of watts by the number of volts obtained in Step 1. The result is the amount of current running through the circuit in amps.
