How to eliminate a puffy face

Updated November 21, 2016

Some people may wake up to puffy eyes, while others wake up to a puffy face. Puffiness in the face can result from many factors, including lack of sleep, dehydration, an allergic reaction, water retention or pregnancy. Many of the same remedies used to fight puffy eyes can also work on the face. Items around the house can help to alleviate facial puffiness.

  1. Take a baby aspirin. It's an anti-inflammatory, so it will reduce swelling anywhere, including the face.

  2. Drink a cup of hot green tea. The antioxidants in the tea work to reduce puffiness.

  3. Wrap an ice pack in a cloth and hold it on your face for 15 to 20 minutes.

  4. Drink 8 glasses of water a day. It may seem like this would increase bloating and swelling but it will help your body eliminate toxins, which may be causing facial puffiness.

  5. Apply cucumber slices to your face, just as you would for under-eye puffiness. Lie down and, if possible, elevate your feet slightly and relax for 10 to 15 minutes.
