How to Make a Washcloth Doll

Updated February 21, 2017

Your child may be timid about getting into the water at bath time. One way to make bath time run more smoothly is to give your child a few toys that can also be used for washing up, such as a washcloth doll. You can find washcloth dolls at a baby supply store, or you can save money and time by making your own washcloth dolls from a standard bathroom washcloth.

  1. Fold a washcloth into a triangle by folding one corner over to the opposite corner.

  2. Place the folded edge away from you.

  3. Cut three pieces of nylon string to measure 6 inches long.

  4. Tie one string tightly around the right point, placing the tie about 1 inch from the end. This will make the doll's right hand.

  5. Tie one string tightly around the left point, placing the tie about 1 inch from the end. This will make the doll's left hand.

  6. Tie the remaining string tightly around the middle of the top fold, gathering up about two inches of washcloth into the tie. This will be the doll's head. You can now use the washcloth doll in the bathtub.
