How to Identify Stihl Chainsaws Models

Updated July 20, 2017

Stihl is among the foremost makers of gas and electric power tools, including chainsaws. When ordering parts or attempting to make repairs to your Stihl chainsaw you might need to know the make and model, which can usually easily be looked up in your owners manual. However, if you do not have your owners manual you will have to find this information in different ways. The following are some ways to identify your Stihl chainsaw model.

  1. Check near your handle of your Stihl chainsaw. If it has not worn off, you may still have a sticker attached there which lists the model number of your chainsaw.

  2. Look under the heat shield of your Stihl chainsaw. Newer model Stihl chainsaws have the model number stamped underneath the heat shield.

  3. Locate a Stihl service dealer nearest your home by using the company's website. Contact the service dealer. The chances are good that they will be able to help you find your model number on an attached sticker or under the heat shield of your chain saw.
