How to Connect Speakers to a Toshiba Regza
If you want to connect external speakers to your Toshiba Regza high-definition television, you cannot simply connect the speakers directly to the TV. You will need to purchase a home theatre receiver to go along with the speakers.
The speakers hook up to the receiver using speaker wire, and then the receiver hooks up to the HDTV in the same manner a video game system or DVD player would.
Purchase a home theatre receiver that meets your needs. Home theatre receivers come in all shapes and sizes, so you'll need to do some comparison shopping before deciding on the appropriate model. Some come with two speakers, some come with five or as many as seven. Some have wireless rear speakers, while some have wired rear speakers. Pick one that best matches the needs of your entertainment room.
Connect your speakers to your home theatre receiver with the included speaker wire. One end of the speaker wire goes into the back of the speakers, and the other goes into the back of the receiver. Match up the speakers with the correct speaker inputs on the receiver. For example, the "RL" labelled speaker is for "rear left." This plugs into the "RL" speaker input on the back of the receiver, and should go behind you and to the left when placing the speaker in the room.
Plug an HDMI cable into the HDMI output on your home theatre receiver. HDMI cables are the only way to transfer true high-definition, uncompressed audio and video signals from a receiver to a TV. Because the Toshiba Regza is an HDTV set, anything less than an HDMI cable will result in a loss of image and audio quality.
Plug the other end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI input on your Toshiba Regza. This input is located on the back of the TV. Your speakers are now connected to your Toshiba Regza.
