The Xbox 360 is similar to other game consoles in that a game disc will no longer work in the DVD drive if it becomes scratched or cracked. You can make a copy of your legally-owned Xbox 360 game disc so the original can be kept safe. You will need to use a computer and Xbox game-copy program, of which there are a number to buy or use for free. You do not need to know anything about how an Xbox 360 game disc works to make a copy, but you will need to modify (or "mod") your Xbox 360 for the copy to work.
Download an Xbox disc-copy program to the desktop of the computer--for example, the trial version of the CloneCD program (see the link in the Resources section of this article). Double-click on the icon of the program once it has downloaded. Follow the menu commands to install the program onto the computer's hard drive. Restart the PC.
Double-click on the icon of the Xbox disc-copy program to launch it. Click on the "Devices" icon on the Xbox disc-copy program's main screen. Select the name of the DVD drive from the drop-down menu
Eject the DVD drive's disc tray. Put the Xbox 360 game disc onto the disc tray with the label side facing up. Close the disc tray.
Click on the "Copy" or "Start" button on the Xbox disc-copy program's main screen.
Wait for the confirmation window to appear that tells you the Xbox 360 game disc has been copied. Click the "OK" button on the confirmation window to return to the Xbox disc-copy program's main screen.
Eject the disc tray. Remove the Xbox 360 game disc. Put the Xbox 360 game disc away. Put the blank recordable DVD onto the disc tray. Close the disc tray.
Click the "Burn" or "Go" button on the Xbox disc-copy program's main screen.
Wait as the Xbox disc copy program burns a copy of the Xbox 360 game disc onto the blank recordable DVD.
Click "OK" in the confirmation window when it appears. Eject the disc tray. Remove the copy of the Xbox 360 game disc that has now been made. Close the disc tray. Quit the Xbox disc-copy program.
- Make sure you have plenty of free hard drive space, as the Xbox disc-copy program will be temporarily using much of it while making the copy.
- A modded Xbox 360 voids the Microsoft warranty.
- Inexpensive, blank recordable DVDs can develop disc errors over time and cease working.
