How to fold napkins into swans

When you host an important dinner party, setting the correct theme is vital. By learning a few easy techniques, you can create restaurant-worthy elegance at your dinner table. A simple way to do this is to start with your napkins. If you use a touch of creativity, your cloth napkins can be more than just something to place nicely on your lap. Fold napkins into all sorts of shapes, including a beautiful swan.

  1. Fold your napkin in half once to form a long rectangle. Fold it again to form a square. Rotate the square so it looks like a diamond.

  2. Fold the left and right corners in to meet at the middle of the napkin. Turn the napkin over. Fold the left and right corners to meet in the centre again.

  3. Fold the bottom corner up to meet the top corner. Fold down the top corner 2.5 cm (1 inch) to form the swan's head.

  4. Fold the napkin vertically in half. Pull the neck of the swan forward.

  5. Pull the loose corners of the napkin to adjust the appearance of feathers.
