How to make purple with food coloring

Purple food colouring is a great colour to have on hand in the spring. The colour looks bright and cheery on Easter eggs, in frosting or as a decorative touch in mashed potatoes or cream sauces. Creating purple food colouring cane be done in seconds.

  1. Place ten drops of red food colouring into a small bowl.

  2. Add five drops of blue colouring to the red.

  3. Whisk the red and blue together to create purple.

  4. Drop in additional red food colouring, one drop at a time, to lighten the purple or more blue colourant to darken it.

  5. Use the purple food colouring as directed on the recipe you are creating.
