B vitamins should not be taken on an empty stomach. Without food, the vitamins are not absorbed by the body very well and simply pass through the elimination system unused. They are water soluble and non-toxic, so high doses are acceptable and any unused amounts are excreted in the urine. Logically, however, this means expensive mega-doses of Vitamin B are pointless, and costly Vitamin B injections are as well.
