Sinus Polyps Natural Cures

Updated April 17, 2017

Sinus polyps, or nasal polyps, are teardrop-shaped benign growths that develop in the nasal and sinus passageways. Although smaller ones usually do not cause any major problems, large ones can lead to sinusitis or block the nasal passageways. Though larger nasal polyps are difficult to remove without proper medical treatment, and there may be no easy way to "cure" polyps because of their recurring nature, there are a few natural remedies that have been known to help in treating smaller-sized polyps.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A has been shown to promote healthy surface linings in the respiratory tract. The Institute of Medicine recommends that adult males consume 900mcg (3,000 IU) of vitamin A each day, and that females consume 700mcg (2,310 IU). Vitamin A can be found in beef, chicken, liver, and Vitamin A & D fortified milk.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is useful in holding body cells together and strengthening the walls of blood cells. There are a number of blood vessels in the nose and nasal passageways that can effect nasal polyps and Vitamin C can help strengthen the skin, enabling it to resist further polyps. The recommended daily allowance for Vitamin C is 60mg, but more can be consumed in times of sickness or disease since Vitamin C also helps build the immune system. This nutrient can be found in plentiful doses in broccoli, cantaloupe, kiwifruit, citrus fruits (such as oranges, grapefruits and lemons) and strawberries. Citrus fruits also contain bioflavonoids, which promote the healing of tissues and infections.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is very useful in promoting the health of mucous membranes as well as skin in general, and can help against sinus polyps. The recommended daily intake of Vitamin E for males and females is 15mg. Vitamin E occurs naturally in wheat germ oil, almonds, sunflower seeds and peanut butter.
