"Achy Breaky Heart" is a country song written by Don Von Tress and recorded by Billy Ray Cyrus on his album "Some Gave All." Whenever the song is choreographed, it is done as a line dance so, if you want to dance to "Achy Breaky Heart," you must know some basic line dance steps. A line dance is a dance during which every stands in a line, faces the same direction and performs the same dance moves simultaneously. There are many different variants to the "Achy Breaky Heart" line dance, but the steps included in this article are a good foundation to get you started dancing to this iconic song.

  1. 1

    Start the dance with your feet together. Step your right foot to the right and follow it by stepping your left foot to the right behind your right foot. Step your right foot to the right again, bring your legs together and tap the ground with your left foot. This is called a "vine to the right."

    Vine to the left by stepping to the left with your left foot, following with your right foot crossing behind your left foot, stepping with your left foot again, bringing your foot together and tapping the flloor with your right foot.

    Step backwards three times in the order right, left, right. On the last step, lean back, lift your left leg into the air so that it is parallel with the dance floor and clap.

    Step forward with your left foot and slide your right foot forward while shifting your weight onto your right foot. Repeat this a second time.

    Stick your left leg out to the left with your toe pointed towards the sky and tap the ground with your heel. Bring your left lef back to centre. Stick your right leg out to the left with your toe pointed towards the sky and tap the ground with your heel. Bring your right leg back to centre.

    Step your left leg out to the left with your toes pointed forward and tap the floor twice with your toes. Step your left leg forward and tap the floor twice with your toes. Step to the left with your left leg and tap once, step forward with your left leg and tap once, step left again and tap once and step forward again and tap once.

    Jump into the air and turn your body to the left one-quarter turn. Start the entire line dance over from the beginning, facing the new direction.
