How Do I Get Removed From Mailing Lists in the U.K.?

If you want to stop receiving junk mail in the U.K., you must remove yourself from the mailing lists of the companies that send such unrequested mail. There are a couple of different websites that make it easy to remove your name and address from the mailing lists of these companies all at one time.

MPS Online

The Mailing Preference Service is a consumer list that includes the names and addresses of people who do not want to receive direct mailings from companies. You can get your name on the Mailing Preference Service consumer list at MPS online (www.mpsonline.org.uk/mpsr). On the Mailing Preference Service registration page, make sure the option "I wish to register my address details to be removed from mailing lists" is selected and click "Next." On the following screen, you will enter your postcode. Select an address from the pull-down list on the following page. It will list all available addresses in that postcode. The following page will ask you to enter your name and the name of anyone else who receives post at the address. You will also fill in a selection on where you learnt about the service and the reason that you want to stop mail, including "Stop unwanted mail" or " Environmental reasons." Enter your e-mail address and you will be sent an e-mail regarding the registration. When you receive the email, it will include a link to confirm your registration on the list. Once confirmed, the registration lasts five years before it must be refiled.

iammoving

The iammoving junk mail service allows you to stop junk mail selectively. To remove yourself from mailing lists using www.iammoving.com, select the "Stop junk mail service" on the first page. You must first sign up for an iammoving account, which can be done using the "open an account" link on the "Stop junk mail" page. After you sign up for a free account, login using the username and password you chose. You will be taken to a page with the headline "Search organisations you can notify." Just above this headline, there is an option bar that includes "Stop junk mail." Click on "Stop junk mail" and you will be transferred to the "Stop junk mail" page. Click on the blue "Click here to send Stop Junk Mail notifications" link and you will be taken to a page with a list of companies that are known to send junk mail. These companies will automatically be listed on the "Stop List." If you leave the page as it is, mail from all the listed companies will be stopped. If there is a company on the list whose mail you want to continue to receive, click on the name of the company and click the "move to neutral list" button. The company will be moved to the "Neutral List" and mail from that company will not be stopped. You can transfer as many companies to the "Neutral List" as you want. When you have selected all of the companies that you want to make neutral, click the "Confirm" button at the bottom of the page. Junk mail will be stopped from all companies left on the "Stop List."
