How to Make a Bed With Hospital Corners on the Sheets

Making a bed with hospital is a lost art. Except for hospital and military personnel, most people no longer make beds this way because it take a little more effort, but the result is a neater looking bed. You can make a bed using hospital corners either with a fitted bottom sheet or with the traditional bottom flat sheet.

Instructions

  1. 1

Place the bottom sheet on the bed. If you are using a fitted sheet with elastic corners, just place the sheet on the bed securing the corners and sides as you usually do and you are ready to move on to Step 5. If you are using a flat bottom sheet, lay the sheet on the bed making sure it is even on both sides.

  2. 2

Tuck in the bottom flat sheet tightly at the head and foot of the bed between the mattress and box spring.

  3. 3

Starting at one corner of the foot of the bed, lift up the sheet by the edge about 15 inches from the foot of the bed, laying the edge of the sheet briefly on top of the bed while you use both hands to tuck in the portion that is hanging down.

  4. 4

Release the sheet back down, smooth it and then tuck it in to form a pocket at that corner of the foot of the bed.

  5. 5

Tuck the rest of that side of the bottom sheet in smoothly between the mattress and box spring.

  6. 6

Move to the other corner of the foot of the bed and follow the same procedure to form an envelope at that corner.

  7. 7

Spread the top sheet on the bed with both sides even and the top hem just touching the edge of the head of the bed.

  8. 8

Tuck the top sheet under smoothly between the mattress and box spring at the foot of the bed.

  9. 9

Form hospital corners on each corner at the foot of the bed as you did with the bottom flat sheet beginning at Step 3.

  10. 10

Spread the blanket on top of the bed, positioning the top of the blanket about 6 inches from the top. Tuck in the blanket smoothly between the mattress and box spring at the foot of the bed.

  11. 11

Follow the same procedure to create hospital corners with the blanket as you did the top sheet.

  12. 12

Finish making the bed by folding down the top sheet over the blanket at the head of the bed and place the pillows on the bed.
