Cocoa is quickly becoming one of the most popular ingredients in homemade self-tanning lotions. To make a sunless tanning lotion, you'll need a standard size bottle of white lotion (around 16 ounces) and 1/4 cup of cocoa.
Mix the ingredients together and put in a spray bottle or apply the lotion directly to your skin with your hands. You'll need to apply the lotion daily in order to see results, and they won't appear immediately. After a week or so of use you'll begin to notice a light, natural tan color. With this mixture, you're not as likely to get an orange result like many store-bought lotions produce. -
A self-tanning lotion made with tea will naturally darken your skin without causing damage to your skin cells. To make this lotion, you'll need 3/4 cup of boiling water, 3 regular tea bags, 1/4 cup lanolin and 1/4 cup sesame oil.
Start by pouring the boiling water over the tea bags and allowing them to steep for up to 10 minutes. After removing the tea bags from the water, pour 1/4 cup of tea, all of the lanolin and all of the sesame oil into a blender. Blend on slow speed and gradually add the remaining tea. Store the lotion in a spray bottle and apply it to your skin sparingly on a daily basis. -
Before you tan you, will want to exfoliate your skin to prepare it for your self-tanning solution. Properly preparing your skin will help you to achieve a natural look without streaks or blotches.
Start by mixing 2 tablespoons of baking soda and 2 tablespoons of manuka honey together. After they are blended, add 1 tablespoon of virgin olive oil. Use this mixture to scrub your skin in the shower. Doing so will remove dead skin cells from your body before you apply your tanning lotion.
