A 50th wedding anniversary is certainly a reason to celebrate. And there is no better way to celebrate than with a party and cake. There are so many decorations for 50th anniversaries that you won't know which to choose. One trick would be to plan the cake first and then match the decorations. Ideas for the cake can be endless as you start to think of long lives spent together.
Remake the Wedding Cake
If the happy couple has a picture of their original wedding cake, have one made that looks just like it. They will be thrilled to see a reproduction of their cake at their 50th anniversary party. Almost any cake baker can make a cake from a picture. If there is no picture, try to have them tell you what it looked like and write it down. It may not be exactly the same, but it will be very close. Top the cake with their original cake topper if they still have it or, if not, try to find one that is similar. If the cake was small and you are inviting a lot of people for the party, have a second sheet cake made to accommodate all the guests.
You can make a beautiful display by setting up a three-tiered cake tray and setting 50 cupcakes on the trays. Top the tray with a large 50th anniversary decoration or their original cake topper. Decorate the top of each cupcake with some sort of anniversary decoration. Depending on the size of the party, you may want to have lots of other cupcakes on standby. This way you can fill up the trays as the cupcakes get eaten. This is a very inexpensive way to make the anniversary cake if you're on a budget and still set up something that is personal and looks great.
The Big Five O
Use bread pans to make several cakes and then form them into the shapes of a five and a zero. Depending on the size of the pans you may need to make as many as 16. And if you want a two layer cake, you can double it. You can purchase a very inexpensive cake decorating kit to use icing to make a special edge around the cakes. Use a large piece of cardboard and crinkle or make a lace design on some wax paper to place over it. Then set the cakes on top of the wax paper. This is another inexpensive way to personalise the special occasion cake.
Other Special Ideas
Make a cake in the form of a heart or two hearts touching each other. Or, you can make the cake in a form of something that shows what their life together has been about. If they loved to garden, make a garden on the cake, if they loved to fish, make the cake in the form of a fish or a boat. You can also have pictures made to go on cakes. Make a copy of their wedding picture, put wax paper under it and place it in the icing on the top of the cake. The important thing is to make the cake personal to the loving couple.
