The most common cause of itchy skin is due to dryness. Dryness on the skin is due to lack of moisture. Extremely hot baths can dry out the skin, tanning and cold weather. The easiest way to remedy dry skin is to moisturize. Choose a lotion that is fragrance free. Avoid soaps with fragrance as well. Fragrances can sometimes cause an allergic reaction which will further dry and irritate the skin. Place a humidifier in your home to add moisture to the air and apply the lotion to your skin several times a day.
  2. Baths

  3. Oatmeal Bath

Itchy skin may be relieved by taking a lukewarm bath. Add oatmeal bath, milks, oils, baking soda or clays to your bath water to help relieve the itching. The cooler the water, the better it will help ease the itch. Avoid bubble bath which can dry the skin. Don't rub the skin; simply allow yourself to soak. Afterward, pat dry and take care not to rub and irritate the skin. Apply moisturizer while you are still a little damp. This will hold in the moisture in your skin.
  4. Lemons

Fresh lemon has natural antiseptic properties. Squeeze the juice of a lemon on to any irritated place on the skin and allow it to dry. You can also soak a washcloth in lemon and rub it gently on your skin. This can provide instant relief. Also try chilling the lemon before you use it. This can provide an added bonus. The important thing to remember with itchy skin is to avoid tight clothing and to stop scratching.
