Whitening toothpastes contain several inexpensive and readily-found ingredients. Make your own toothpaste with help from Gorgeously Green's Sophie Uliano in this free video on green lifestyles.
Hi, I'm Sophie Uliano, author of "The Gorgeously Green" book series, and today I'm going to show you how you can whiten your teeth naturally. Now, this is a toothpaste that you can make at home. It's very very inexpensive. Now, these are the ingredients that you're going to need for it. You're going to need vegetable glycerin which you will get from Boot's or a health food store. You're going to need hydrogen peroxide, also you'll probably get it from Boot's or a supermarket. You're going to need bicarbonate of soda. You're going to need the sweetener, optional. It's called stevia and you can probably get it from a health food store and then you're going to need peppermint essential oil and this is how you make it, it is so easy. So I'm first off going to use a container, any little plastic container like this that has a sealable lid is a good idea. Now I'm going to put in two teaspoons of my bicarbonate of soda in that goes, then I'm going to put in two teaspoons of hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide is one of my sort of favorite anti germicidal and anti bacterial products. It's so inexpensive and it's really great to use around the house instead of bleach and you can drink it, eat it surprisingly. Alright I've put in two teaspoons of vegetable glycerin. So there it all is and what I'm going to do is just mix it all up like so into this gooey paste and then I'm going to add six drops of peppermint essential oil. So we'll put that in, pure essential oil. Now, here is the key. If like me I don't really like sweet sweet things and it's a little bit bitter this toothpaste which I actually like so I don't add the sweetener. But if you're making this for your family and particularly your kids, you definitely want the sweetener in there. So this is what it is stevia, it's a herbal natural safe herb sweetener. It's very very sweet so a tiny little bit. I'd say a pinch of stevia, in it goes. Now this is quite runny because you're going to dip your toothbrush in it. If you want it to be a little bit more of a thicker paste, then simply put in one more teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda. You keep on adding the bicarbonate of soda until you get the desired consistency and then when you're ready to use it, dip your toothbrush in, scoop up the whitening toothpaste and brush your teeth as normal and I will tell you that this is so refreshing. Once you've used this toothpaste it is completely different to a regular commercial toothpaste. Your mouth feels super super clean and the bicarbonate of soda and the hydrogen peroxide help to whiten your teeth naturally. So inexpensive, safe, make it at home, make it for your family. It makes sense. So for more recipes like this, tips, tricks, please visit me at Gorgeouslygreen.com.
