To adjust sound on your laptop, find the physical hardware to change the volume or the button, usually located above your keyboard. Fix your audio with help from an IT specialist in this free video on laptop computers.
Hi, my name is Chris Dowdy with Orange Star Networks, and I'm here to explain to you how to adjust the sound on your laptop. If you're playing an audio clip or a video clip and having a difficult time hearing the sound, there's a few things you can check to ensure the sound in your laptop is working properly. The first thing you want to do is locate the physical hardware on your laptop. Somewhere near the audio output jack or the headphone jack, there should be a physical wheel that you can turn up and down to adjust the volume. If you don't find one there, then a lot of laptops have an up and down volume button located somewhere above the keyboard. The next place to look, if the audio is still not working, is a function key. Generally, there are two function keys, one for adjusting the volume up, one for adjusting it down, as well as the third key that mutes the audio altogether. Make sure the audio is un-muted and that the sound is up. If you're still having trouble listening to the audio, then, under the start menu and control panel, you'll find a sound and audio devices setting. Here, you can turn the volume up and down, as well as turn the volume off and on. You can check there to make sure all the volume is up and working, and you should be able to hear audio by then.
