Hi, I'm Gretchen Rivas with Relax Massage Therapy in Wilmington, North Carolina. And today, we're going to talk a little bit about foot reflexology. What you'll need for this are a table, some lotion, on some space. The idea behind reflexology is that feet are a reflexion of the body. And so, everything on the bottom of the foot, on each of the feet, is a reflexion of that part of the body above it. So, when you're working on the foot, this is considered the head, the toes, the bottoms of the toes are sinus points. If you ever have sinus congestion, you can rub these bottoms of the toes and that can help give you a little relief from sinus congestion. This is considered the head and this is the neck. and then your spine runs along the foot. The heal is good for sciatic pain. Then you also have eyes and nose and all the different parts of the body are reflected. And you can get charts that show you exactly where everything is. But today, I'm just going to talk about the main points because, where people often need work. If you're having abdominal issues, constipation, or any kind of digestive issues, The intestines, small and large, and kidneys and all that run right through here in the middle of the feet and they reflect each other. So, you have ascending, transcending and descending colon areas over here. And on one side you have the liver, the other side you have the heart. And so, depending on what's going on with the body, you would work that particular area of the foot. When I'm working with the feet, I usually prefer to use a lotion rather than an oil. And you my want to use a hot towel before or afterwards. Because that way when they get off the table or you're done working on their feet, they're not slipping or sliding all over the place. But the main thing with reflexology that I find to be helpful is knowing that this is the spine and this can be good for sciatica. The head and neck, so, if somebody has a headache, you can get in here and work at the base of the big toe, and that can often give them a little bit of relief from their headache. If they're having some backache, you can work in here along the spinal area and if they;re having indigestion or digestion issues, constipation, you can work along the digestion channels through the feet here. And, of course another important one, as we move into spring, and any type of sinus and allergy issues you might have, is to work these, base of these toes for any kind of sinus issues. And that's how you do some reflexology.
