Hi, I'm Jennifer Rae, an Equity actor. Today, I'd like to discuss acting audition tips from a casting director. When I'm casting a show, not only do I look at people's resumes and head shots, I look at the way that they present themselves on stage. It's really important to have a positive, fun attitude because acting is a lot of work. I see that actors have a lot of dedication, but I also want them to have fun doing the things they're doing, whether it's on stage or in front of the camera. Be open to possibilities, and when I say that, a lot of people come in, they audition, they have their heart and their mind set on one particular part. That can prove to be a great disadvantage. Think about all the other parts that you might be possible or fit into. If you get cast in something other than what you wanted, don't look it as if you weren't good enough. Look at it as an opportunity to try something new. You're still acting. Don't get hung up on one character or one part. Be open. The other thing to understand is that, when we're casting a show, it's really not personal unless you have a really bad attitude. But on the whole, what we're looking at is how the picture will look when we put people together. When you're acting, you're usually acting with someone else. If you're too tall and the other actor is too short, when I'm looking at those possibilities, I have to try and find matches. So, I'm looking for people of similar height, or a similar build. It's not personal against you as an actor. It's just knowing that in order to make the show or the film work, we have to make choices based on body type. Know that you get to go out there and audition again. Don't take it personally. I'm Jennifer Rae, and that was acting audition tips from a casting director.
