"Hello, my name is Dr. Simion Tsinker. I'm with Plantation Maternity Center in Plantation, Florida. Let's talk about what causes breast soreness in pregnancy. In general, women should realize that the breasts, the nipples as well as the uterus and the ovaries are the so-called target organs for the hormonal stimulation and pregnancy is one of those stages in woman's life when the hormonal level is the highest. Therefore, these, these areas are being overstimulated in pregnancy and for a good reason. The nature prepares the woman for breastfeeding and that means the breast tissue and the nipple are being stimulated. That may cause some soreness of the nipples; some tenderness in the breast. These, these symptoms are necessary; unfortunately they are part of normalcy; they shouldn't be fearful to a woman and the only thing she can do is basically sometimes use cream to make the skin, the skin around the nipple more, more supple; more pliable, softer and so on. But overall, some tendernesses of the nipples is an avoidable."
