"Stomach virus is usually transmitted by people who don't wash the hands and people who eat after other people who have stomach viruses. Viruses can live on your hands for several hours and the best way to keep from getting viral infections from someone else, is to make sure that once you've had physical contact with them, that you wash your hands and also you don't touch objects they have touched because the virus can be on their hands, from wiping their mouth and around their face. So avoid contact and wash your hands; if you do have contact, then don't eat after people and sanitizers work well. They're alcohol based; you apply them directly in and let that air dry and that usually will disinfect their hand from virus. But we have the, in the medical profession we wash our hands before contact with patient and after contact with patient. You try to avoid contact with your face and mouth with your hands and your eyes because that will carry the virus and you may inadvertently pick it up from contact with another person who is infected and then transmit it to yourself; to your nose and mouth and then it goes down to your GI tract, stomach and intestines and gives you the infection."
