Hello! My name is Carlos Navarro. I'm an artist and educator in Miami, Florida. Who is Ansel Adams? Wow, I remember the first time I went to Yosemite, it was 1969 and my mom and dad were there and they said to me, you know. Can you do a painting of Yosemite? I said, sure mom! So, I got a beautiful painting of the river and behind that river was a very beautiful piece of granite slab rock, it's called El Capitan which in English means The Captain. The valley was beautiful, I remember everything about it and as we were driving up I saw Yosemite falls for the first time. I went to the beautiful overlook and I was able to camp out and go wading in the river and when I came back home I started looking up things about Yosemite and one of the things that I found was there was a guy, he was a photographer and he did the most amazing black and white photography, something like I'd never seen before. And when I looked at the photography it just it almost made gave me sense that I was there with that person and the photographer happen to be Ansel Adams who is renowned all over the world for his beautiful pictures of the Yosemite Valley and I remember saying to my mom, you know, I wish I could paint like he photographs and she said, well, someday you will. And now I do but Ansel Adams to me was an inspiration and he still is.
