Defragmenting a computer is a great way to free up space and speed up processing on a hard-disk drive. Make a computer run faster and more efficient with tips from a software developer in this free video about computer technology.
Hi, my name is Dave Andrews, today I'm going to show you how to speed up a hard-disk drive. To speed up our drive, lets click on the start button at the bottom and go to computer. Your main hard-disk drive is drive C, we're going to speed this up by right clicking on it, go to properties, choosing the tools tab and then under defragmentation, lets click on degragment. What this brings up is the disk defragement or program. That takes the files that are on your PC that might be broken up into different locations on the hard-disk and puts them altogether, that way it opens them up faster. In Vista, you can run that on schedule, I have mine scheduled to run every Wednesday at one o' clock in the morning, if it misses that time, it'll run the next time it's available. You can also click this button here that says Defragment Now, select the drive that you want to defragment and say ok. It is now running the disk defragmentation on my C-drive and that drive will run faster. My name is Dave Andrews and I've just showed you how to speed up a hard-disk drive.
