"There can be some humor in medicine. I have had the privilege of having a partner who is a twin brother and so there are a lot of opportunities that we have to sometimes play jokes on patients. Usually all well intended and never malicious. But we do have some fun times with our patients trying to have them understand who we are. Do something that would allow us to have a little but of fun with them because of the fact that we look alike and act alike. Now one of the benefits of this is many times I'll have a patient come up to me while I'm out and about in society and they'll say it's either you or your brother operated on me about ten years ago and I'll say well how are you doing. And if they say oh I'm doing great I'll say it must have been me. So that helps. As far as medicine is concerned it is a profession that people are willing to subject themselves totally to your care so it can be fairly heavy. I think it's important to continue to stay well balanced. I enjoy a lot of sporting events and I strive to practice what I preach in my physical fitness. I love to play golf. I wish I were a little bit better at tennis and I enjoy recreational things and I think that's an important part of keeping my saw sharp. If we spend all day sawing and don't sharpen the saw then it can be deleterious in the long run in our practices."
