"Hi, I'm Dr. Joshua Vogel with Carolina OB/GYN, a division of Wilmington Health Associates, and I'm going to talk to you today about symptoms of vaginal herpes. By far, the most common symptoms, and almost with one hundred percent prevalence, of vaginal herpes are pain and blisters. Now certainly, there are other causes of blisters, but the typical findings of an outbreak of vaginal herpes are small, isolated, what appear to be blisters, also called vesicles. They tend to be very painful, especially if it is a newly contracted illness. The longer one has had herpes and it becomes recurrent over time, the pain lessens and may even evolve to more of an itching, but the symptoms of one or more isolated vesicles that slowly grow, erupt, drain, and then sort of crust over, and if there are multiple ones they tend to coalesce into what appears to be a crusting and scab. These are the typical symptoms that one experiences with vaginal herpes. If one is having these symptoms and uncertain of the diagnosis it is a fairly easy diagnosis to make, but you should try to be seen during the time of the actual outbreak to make a definitive diagnosis. This has been a discussion today of symptoms of vaginal herpes."
