"Hi my name is John Bosworth, I'm a licensed mental health counselor in St. Pete Florida. I would like to talk about the positive effects of methadone clinics. Most of us kind of get, you know, the idea of the methadone clinic of the junkies or the addicts down there getting their methadone. But there is actually a lot more to it, a lot more people that are addicted to other opiates or prescription pain killers can actually benefit from a methadone clinic in that the two main advantages that I like to look at are, it's safe and it convenient. Usually anybody that is going through any type of opiate withdrawal or methadone maintenance program, if they have a safe place where they can go where their actual drug maintenance is supervised by medical professionals, that's much better for everybody involved. And what I like to look at the major benefits and the major positive effects of methadone clinics are, I like to call that we are swapping the addictive behavior for more productive behavior. And by that what I mean is addictive behavior is usually seen as shady, people are spending their whole lives and all of their present moments thinking about how do I get the drug. How much money do I got to get? What do I got to steal? Or what do I got to pawn? So with methadone, because it is so much cheaper, it's a lot easier to get people to actually take responsibility for their own treatment. So not only do they set up, not only is it safe, but again they set up a more disciplinary approach, which actually again, swap some of the addictive behavior for more productive behavior. The person or the addict is actually starting to take responsibility not only for their drug use and cleaning up, but also starting to make some better habits, or some better disciplinary habits throughout their day. So those are some of the positive effects of methadone clinics. And my name is John Bosworth, and I am a licensed mental health counselor in St. Petersburg Florida."
